Creating Safe Space in a Broken System
I’ve worked in systems most of my life—first navigating them, then trying to hold space within them.
The truth is, many of our systems weren’t built to heal.
They were built to control.
I’ve seen people criminalized for their pain, silenced by bureaucracy, and left unseen by institutions that were supposed to care.
I’ve watched clients get lost in the shuffle—of overworked staff, underfunded programs, and policies that prioritize paperwork over people.
And yet—within the cracks of those systems, I’ve witnessed transformation.
Not because the system saved anyone,
but because someone—sometimes just one person—created a safe space where a soul could be heard, held, and honored.
That’s the kind of space I’ve worked to create.
Sometimes it looked like offering a cup of tea and a seat with no judgment.
Sometimes it was rewriting an intake form to include: Who are you becoming?
Sometimes it was simply saying, You’re not crazy. You’re carrying pain.
Safe space doesn’t always mean soft space.
It means honest space. Rooted space.
Space where truth is welcomed and stories are held—not fixed.
That’s what The Mosaic House was born from:
A deep knowing that every story has a place.
That healing happens when we stop trying to fit into broken frameworks—and instead create new ones.
Ones that honor the whole person.
So if you’ve ever felt like you were too much, too tired, or too broken to be helped—know this:
You’re not the problem.
The system wasn’t built for your brilliance.
But I believe we can build something different—together.
